Meeting Minutes
April 9, 2024
Members Present: Herb Else, Eric Poppelton, Dale Hollingshead, Bruce Valiquet, Quint Shear, Jenny Beiermann, John Hefner, and two new potential members from the ATV team.
Bruce called the meeting to order at 6:45 pm.
Jenny read the minutes from the previous meeting. Herb moved to approve the secretary’s report as read. Dale seconded.
Quint moved to dispense with the treasurer’s report for the meeting being that our treasurer, Arne, was absent and did not leave any notes. Herb secondedl.
Committee Reports.
- SARC – Quint reported that we had one mission which was a recovery mission up Sawmill Road. RAD deputies tried all day to reach a gentlemen that was stuck in his truck in the snow. Bruce, Quint, and John went to get him and successfully brought him back to the RAD’s. He had driven his truck into some thawed snow and refused to walk the 1 mile to the RAD deputies for removal. It was also noted that he was from Cedaredge, had no coat, and was wearing cowboy boots; showing he was unprepared to be doing what he was. It was also noted the Blake Valiquet and John Rizza had been officially approved as SARC volunteers. Quint and Andy still have not heard back from Rich about updating the materials in the ambulance sled. We will work on this next fall when we are moving into the snow rescue season.
- Grooming – Herb and Carl brought the Bearcat and the groomer to Andy’s barn. The actuator does work, but needs some rewiring this summer. Quint wants to know if Dan still has the bracket he gave him to weld onto the groomer to help the actuator. Quint, Andy, Herb, and Bruce will work on the groomer this summer.
- Safari – Our previously scheduled Bonham ride on 3.23.24 was cancelled due to lack of snow. Quint reported on the Partners ride on 04.06.24. It was a successful ride, but cold for the kids so they cut it short. Everyone had fun and they roasted hot dogs at the parking lot before sending the kids home. We had 14 kids total for the ride. We paid $154.50 for insurance for the partners ride. Herb moved to reimburse Quint $121.11 for purchasing food for the Partners Ride. Dale seconded. Quint reiterated that he would like to share the safari leader responsibilities or pass on this torch to another member next year. Bruce agreed that we will look at forming a group of folks next year to lead rides.
Open Issues
- Herb asked about the SP being groomed all the way and wants to contact the Mt. Sopris Rec Riders and ask them if they will groom all the way to Delta’s cut off. Herb also wants to send a thank you card to the Delta SnoKruisers for grooming all the way to Vega this year, especially for the Ryan Deppe memorial ride. Herb also mentioned that we should thank the Forest Service and Vega State Park for helping get Delta back on track. Jenny will design a thank you for Herb to write and send to Delta.
- Quint and Bruce updated the club on the avalanche beacon test station we’ve been working on getting from CSA. Bruce reported that in order to get one, we need to turn in an application and a $1,500 deposit for the check station. Bruce suggested fundraising to pay for the avalanche beacon station. Quint reminded the group that we should purchase this as this is what the club was designed to do. We haven’t had any education events we’ve contributed to in quite some time, so this should be a priority. Dale moved to put an application forward with the $1,500 check to purchase the station to put at Vega. Quint seconded. We then discussed potential grants and sponsors that we could apply for and meet with to raise funds for the station.
- Bruce updated us on our raffle ticket winnings. We sold roughly $900 worth of tickets, but we only get a portion. He said we could expect around $230 of sales to be coming, but they haven’t officially tallied everything, yet. All Terrain and Ski-Doo will sponsor the sled next year – Ski-Doo will donate a full size sled, and All Terrain will cover half of the cost. This should generate more ticket sales being a full size sled. We will put our ticket earnings towards purchasing the beacon test station.
New Business
- This will be our last meeting for the year until October when snow starts to fly. We discussed potentially having a dirt bike get together or a potential trip to Lake Powell with Dale.
- 8 Ball Award – John Hefner returned the 8-ball and John Rizza was nominated for breaking off his brake reservoir on his new sled after hitting a tree. John Rizza won by unanimous vote.
Herb moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:15. Herb seconded.

SARC – Meeting 11/19 at Andy’s barn
Rides/Safari Report – Quint left email for Bruce
12/18 will be the first club ride if snow permits.I spoke to the Dixon Motel about January 26 and she said that weekend is open. We should probably have the
place to ourselves. They will make us dinner and open the bar but we would have to bring our breakfasts up or go
into Baggs to the Café (10 miles). She said there is a good parking area at the trailhead and lots of riding. They
usually just get Rawlins and Craig people up there so not much traffic. Rooms are $85 a night.
For Meeker on February 10 th there aren’t any real choices up the valley. The only lodge available is out of the way
for riding and their cabins are real limited. If anyone says they heard Sleepy Cat is open please let them know I will
turn the trip over to them (Cameron and Marty) . Sleepy Cat only has a couple cabins they rent out on VRBO. The
best thing I have found is the Meeker Trailhead Cabins and Motel. They are right in town. They have cabins 1-3
bedroom and rooms with or without a kitchenette. The prices range from $100 for a regular room to $190 for a 3-
bedroom cabin. All very reasonable and look nice. There are places in town we can eat. Grooming – Carl
