Tuesday – December 12, 2023

Sheriff’s Posse Building
Members Present: Bruce Valiquet, Vince Guinta, Herb Else, Don Johnson, Andy Kelley,
Quint Shear, Shari Shear, Jenny Beiermann
Called Meeting to Order: 6:45

Minutes of the Last Meeting
Jenny presented the minutes of the last meeting
Andy moved to accept the minutes, Don seconded; motion carried

Treasurer’s Report
Arne was absent, so we dispensed with the presentation of the treasurer’s report.
At least 5 checks have come in for map ads

Committee Reports

SARC
We have a training tomorrow, the 13th, for Discord and Active 911 at 6:00 at the SO
training room.
On Thursday – John, Quint, and Andy will meet with the ground team to discuss the
training happening on January 6th.

Grooming
Groomer and bearcat are at Andy’s barn.  Andy, Marty, Quint, and Carl assessed the
condition of the groomer.  Quint thinks we need to build a brace with pins to minimize
the movement that stresses the motor.  Dan Coulter will weld and build the arm to fix the
problems.

Safari Team
12/16/23 – We will ride at 10 o’clock out of the visitor center on Saturday.  More of just a
trail ride to get some machines out – if some people are interested we can maybe have
lunch at Grand Mesa Lodge.

01/06/24 Sarc Training, likely on the Uncompahgre

01/13/24 will be a Vega ride or Bonham (?)and our Christmas Party at Wine Country
Inn

01/27/24 local ride – probably the burn and electric mountain lodge

02/10/24 we will ride out of Glenwood or Meeker
Glenwood rooms are $269/night

Meeker ride would be less expensive – we could go to Meeker in March if we want to do
two out of town rides, or can only do one on the 10th

02/24/24 Vega ride – Memorial for Ryan Deppe

03/09/24 – Meeker ride

03/23/24 – local ride – electric mountain if we don’t combine it with the burn ride

04/06/24 – Partners ride

Electric Mountain had two fires in cabins – but they are advertising they will be open this
spring, so we will try and squeeze one of those in.

Open Issues
Don asked if we will be doing photos or videos again for social media to generate
interest in the club like Sonya Thompson did last year.

We reviewed the list of active and expired members for the Snowmobile Club.

CSA was going to have us on a list for beacon check stations – we have never heard
back.  Quint will investigate

Map ads – each of the three clubs that sponsored the maps are only printing 500.   Delta
Snocruisers and Mount Sopris Rec Riders are the other two clubs that sponsor the
maps.

We will only print 1500 maps – 500 for each club

We will try and support Vega lodge this year and have a meal there after a Vega ride

Jenny will design business cards for the club/sarc to put in windshields and to use on
rescues

Andy will get a logo
Contact info – snowskippers website snowskippers.com
Club Address – PO Box 4964 GJ, 81502
Bruce will look into a club Venmo account

8 – ball award – we discussed whether Andy or Jenny getting the award for going
sledding without putting gas in a sled.  It was also discussed if Quint should get it for not
putting the cap on his chain case.
It was decided it would remain at Andy’s office until the ride this weekend.

Quint moved to have our January meeting at the Christmas party on 01/13/24.  Andy
seconded; motion carries

Don moved to adjourn the meeting, Herb seconded; meeting adjourned.

 Rides/Safari Report – Quint left email for Bruce
 12/18 will be the first club ride if snow permits.

I spoke to the Dixon Motel about January 26 and she said that weekend is open.  We should probably have the
place to ourselves.  They will make us dinner and open the bar but we would have to bring our breakfasts up or go
into Baggs to the Café (10 miles).  She said there is a good parking area at the trailhead and lots of riding.  They
usually just get Rawlins and Craig people up there so not much traffic.  Rooms are $85 a night.
For Meeker on February 10 th there aren’t any real choices up the valley.  The only lodge available is out of the way
for riding and their cabins are real limited.  If anyone says they heard Sleepy Cat is open please let them know I will
turn the trip over to them (Cameron and Marty) .  Sleepy Cat only has a couple cabins they rent out on VRBO.  The
best thing I have found is the Meeker Trailhead Cabins and Motel.  They are right in town.  They have cabins 1-3
bedroom and rooms with or without a kitchenette. The prices range from $100 for a regular room to $190 for a 3-
bedroom cabin.  All very reasonable and look nice.  There are places in town we can eat.

     Grooming – Carl
     Nothing to report
